4) "Use of Beneficial Bacteria
in the Larval Rearing of Shrimp Penaeus schmitti", by Elvira Alfonso, Elpidio Beltrame, Edemar
R. Andreatta, Alitiene Lemos y Jair Quaresma, sponsored by the Centro de
Investigaciones Marinas, Universidad de La Habana, Cuba and Laboratorio
de Camaroes Marinhos, Centro de Ciencias Agraras, Universidade Federal de
Santa Catarina, Brasil in 1994.
English Abstract: Recently some live organisms have appeared
in the market, designed as waste degraders for Aquaculture. The effect of
two products (Alken Clear-Flo 1000 and
Alken Clear-Flo 1200) on
the larval rearing of the white shrimp Pennaeus schmitti was tested.
This species is commercially cultured in Brazil and Cuba. Dosages were evaluated,
also the oll of the products on the water quality and the possible control
of the gut epithelium scaling syndrome of the animals, known as "Bolitas"
were studied. In order to analyze the results , the following have been
considered: survival, metamorphosis rate, larval quality and size of the
postlarvae. It was concluded that the tested products can be used even since
Protozoea l. It was possible to reduce the daily water exchange from
100% to 30% in the larval rearing process, besides avoiding the presence
of the gut epithelium scaling syndrome from the larvae. The products can
optimize the production of P. schmitti postlarvea.
We wish to express our appreciation
to distributor, Andre Nogueira , of PTA Tecnologia, for sharing this research
paper with us. |
5) "The Effect of Alken
Clear-Flo 1200 used in Grow-Out Ponds of Penaeus japonicus"
by Li Hui-Rong, YuYong,
Ji Wei-Shang and Xu Huai-Shu, of the College of Marine Life Sciences, Ocean
University of Qingdao, China 266003, in 1999.
Synopsis of results: This study demonstrated reduced ammonia
levels over controls and increased size, in overall length, width, and
weight of the shrimp culture grown when officially expired product was
applied (age 11 months at start of test). The liquid CF 1200 was NOT supplemented
with its usual CF 1001 dry supplement, and did not show a scientifically
significant difference in the COD levels versus the control ponds, although
both maintained low levels. Click HERE

Eels Water Treatment
|
1) Chinese eel farm used Clear-Flo
1200 to decreased water changes, off-flavor and hydrogen sulfide
formation - with photos (eelfarm1) |
2) Photos demonstrate the water
quality when Clear-Flo 1200 is used for eel growing (eelfarm4) |
3) Since eels absorb 60% of their
oxygen through their skins, they are exceptionally sensitive to polluted
water. Clear-Flo 1001, 1400 & 1200
decreased the death rate from 50 to 100 eels a day to 5
to 7 eels a day (improved by 93%). Photos illustrate Korean eel farmers
at work. (eelfarm5) |
Koi Water Care

Zoo Cleanup
|
After 22 days of treatment with
Clear-Flo 1200 in their alligator and animal ponds and aquariums,
a Mexican zoo experienced an 84%
reduction of BOD and COD, suspended solids decreased by 93%,
TKN reduced by over 50%, oxygen levels increased from 0.1 ppm to
2.0 ppm, water clarity was improved by 26%, pH was increased from 6.8 to
7.5, and sediment was decreased from 2.0 to 0!!Click here

to maintain clean water. Dosages used by the client are listed. (FrogFarm1) |
River Remediation & Sludge Removal
|
1) The scientific report of the
1992-93 remediation of the Moulin Vert Canal using Clear-Flo 1200 for 3 months. (Arnaud.CXI) This
report details the application methods, the monitored sludge reduction,
and improved water quality. Ammonia was reduced from 0.02 ppm to 00.0 ppm,
COD was decreased by 84%, BOD was decreased by 74%. Toxicity tests
were performed and proved that there was no detectable toxicity during the
treatment. 1500 cubic meters of sludge was degraded during the 3
months. Bioseeding with Clear-Flo 1200 restored the
canal's capacity for self-purification as it continues to mineralize sludge,
several years after treatment was stopped. Diagrams and photos illustrate
this study. |
2) 1993 cleanup of a stretch
of the Kunming River in China with
Clear-Flo 7018, 1200
& 7000 is demonstrated
with photos. The anoxic water was so heavily laden with suspended organic
waste from fertilizers, animal droppings, fish-farming by-products, septic
tank seepage, industrial wastewater and direct disposal of raw garbage that
the eutrophic river emitted an unbearable stench. Ammonia and hydrogen
sulfide were decreased, sludge was broken up, and as a byproduct of hydrogen
sulfide oxidation, free oxygen began to increase. (ChinaRiver1) |
3) The remediation of the River Sorgue in France in 1993 with
Clear-Flo 1200
is illustrated with photos and a newspaper article. BOD and COD were decreased,
algal blooms disappeared, and the fish returned within 2 months. A picture
of this river is on our HOME page. |
4) A Taiwan shrimp farm pond
bottom conditioning with Clear-Flo 1200, in 1992, is illustrated
with photographs. When the 2 months normally allowed for soil remediation
between cycles is decreased, the total annual shrimp production is increased.

5) Before and After photos illustrate
how use of Clear-Flo 1000 & 1200 removed the sulphurous
bacteria from the sludge in Eelfarm pond bottom in Shinto, China in 1993.

Bioremediation of General Ponds & Lakes
|
1) This synopsis of an article
written in the Va. Lake Association in 1993, describes the successful treatment
of a 7 acre fresh water lake in Virginia Beach, VA with Clear-Flo
1000. (Sylvanlk.897) |
2) The remediation of 3 lakes in sequence,
at Boxwood Farm, was accomplished
with treatments of Clear-Flo 1200, applied to the top lake
only, creating visible changes in 2 weeks. Ammonia decreased from 2.5
mg/l to 0.4 mg/l and photos show water so clear it could be mistaken
for bottled drinking water! (Boxwood1) |
3) Story of the remediation of Lake
Gaskin, surrounded by a commercial development, using Clear-Flo
1000 & 1100 to decreasee ammonia and odors. Photo illustrates
the difference in clarity between water samples taken before and after treatment
(illustrates how well newsprint is read through the treated water) and shows
the difference in water clarity in the actual lake. (LakeGaskin1) |
4) The story in the "Clean Water/Lake
Management" Alken-Murray three-fold brochure gives a synopsis of the
treatment of a large lake, a large pond and "turtle pond" in Central
Park, New York in the summer of 1992. A longer version of the study gives
full details of treatment applications (lower doses now because of increased
product concentration and improved balance) with Clear-Flo 1200, 1000, and 1001.
The "Lake" showed Secchi disk reading improved by 78%,
suspended solids decreased by 77%, and BOD decreased by 60%. "Turtle
Pond" Secchi disk readings were improved by 78%, suspended solids
decreased by 70%, and BOD decreased by 72%. The "Pond" Secchi
disk readings improved by 37%, suspended solids decreased by 62%, BOD decreased
by 52%. |
5) Filamentous "blue-green algae"
aka Cyanobacteria discouraged by Clear-Flo 1200 with Supplement
C in 1997 case study from lakes belonging to the City of Gaithersburg,
Maryland. Account handled by Alken-Murray Distributor, Wildlife
Habitats. |
6) In 1991, CF 1000 and 1200
were used to restore clean water to the 12 acre lake at Merry Oak Farm in
Warrenton, VA, home to crappy, bass, swans, Canadian geese and other migratory
fowl. Farm manager, Richard Mayberry, said "...in six weeks, we
cleaned up our lake completely with Alken Clear-Flo. We've got absolutely
no algae! Riders can water their horses here in safety because we don't
use dangerous chemicals in the water." Below is a picture of the
appearance of the water, before and after.

7) A variety of Alken
Clear-Flo formulas, pH balancing, ultraviolet inhibitor, design changes
and aeration replacement brought control to Belvedere
Lake, a former retention basin, now managed by L.A. County Public
Works. Distributor DeAna Vitela, of AquaBio
Environmental Technologies, surveyed the lake, took down a complete
history, and examined water test results. Factors contributing to problems
- Zeolite on the bottom of the pond, not in a filter, which bound ammonia
temporarily, until saturated, and then leached the ammonia back into the
lake. The Zeolite also lowered the pH to 4.5 , so 8 tons of aluminum sulfate
was added by dump truck, in uneven lumps, around the bottom, to raise the
pH. With no shade, poor circulation, and high nutrients from the migratory
birds and Bass, Trout and Catfish stocked in the lake, it was soon covered
in algae. Copper sulfate failed to solve the problem, and various other
quick remedies also failed. Today this lake is clean and clear, with healthy
fish and birds. |
Country Club Pond Bioremediation
|
1) The story of an American golf club's
experience with Clear-Flo 7000
and 7110 in 1991. Odors
were reduced in 10 days, turbidity decreased by 65% within a month. After
2 months of treatment, turbidity was reduced by 95%, algae overblooms
had been avoided, and there were no unpleasant odors. (Golfclub) |
2) An Oklahoma country club used Clear-Flo
1200 and 7118 (OklahomaCC.CXI) to clear up murky water in 1994,
illustrated with photos. |
3) A Midwestern golf club used Clear-Flo 1200 &
1001 to clean the water of pollutants that were so severe that
a mat of algae so thick it looked like you could walk on it was supported. |
4) In 1998, Guadalajara Country Club used Clear-Flo
7000 to discourage formation of most surface algae, but were unhappy
with the green color that persisted in the water. After consulting with
Claudia Velasco, VP Management of Alken-Murray, the treatment was altered.
One small dose of polymer was added to a small dose of Clear-Flo 1001 to
instantly clear the water. Follow up treatment with Clear-Flo 1200 with
its Clear-Flo 1001 supplement has maintained clean water for this pond.
BOD decreased by 97%. COD decreased by 85%. SST decreased by 98%, and
phosphates decreased by 69%.Click
